Several experiments have been conducted in Phoenix cannariensis and Washingtonia filifera nursery pot plants. Diuron was phytotoxic in both species, but simazine between I to 3 kg/ka was selective. In direct applications metabenzotiazuron was selective in P. canariensis between 1 to 3 kg/ha bur phytotoxic in W. filifera at 3 kg/ha. Washingtonia filifera do not tolerate direct treatments of these herbicides above 0,5 kg/ha.
